Rudi S. Carson is a director who prides himself on his versatility in theatre. Having worked in every department of theatre in an amateur level and most departments in a professional setting, Carson has a vast amount of experience, knowledge, and insight into how theatres and performances operate. He uses this knowledge to his advantage, enabling him to make the most out of every aspect of theatre, while commanding teams with consideration and expertise.
"I love to work on projects that feel grand and larger than life - tragedies and dramas especially. I want audiences to come and see my shows for entertainment, but leave with an experience. Theatre is such a unique art form for that reason, and I think that the experiential nature of theatre is something I have always been drawn to. I like works that make big statements and pose bigger questions, performances that feel as though they swallow you up.
I have always seen the purpose of art as the same purpose as life: to understand and be understood. I aim, in my work, to facilitate this. I want audiences to come and watch performances that feel so reflective to themselves that they feel more understood than they ever have been. I want audiences to come and watch performances that feel so distant from themselves, but true, that they feel as though they understand something they never did before. In that same vein, I want to make work that allows me to understand the world I exist in, and create work that allows me to feel as though the world understands me back."
